50 Day countdown to 2020

50 Day Countdown to 2020

Okay, so we are officially on a countdown to a new year! I’m always excited about the prospect of new beginnings and I hope you are as excited as I am to usher in the year 2020, or 20/20, one that has been designated the “Year of Visionaries” by our man of God, Pastor Michael A. Freeman, at Spirit of Faith Christian Center.

That being said, as of today we still have 50 days left in 2019 and that means you have 50 more days to get yourself together and set yourself on a path to optimal health and wellness, which is the ultimate act of Self-Care!!

My desire is to help you achieve that goal, therefore for the next 50 days I’m going to share practical nutritional tips (all from my book Dr. Yolanda’s S.O.U.L Food Therapy) to get and keep you on track through some of the trickiest days to come. Most of you know what I’m talking about!! Food traps in the guise of office holiday parties, potlucks, large family meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas featuring pumpkin and sweet potato pies, Christmas cookies, gingerbread houses, cobblers and sugar-sweetened “Spirits” are all awaiting you and have the potential of throwing you into a tailspin of sugar highs and lows, and unwanted weight gain that makes winter even more dreadful than intended.

But don’t fret. I’m here to help you through the holidays. Together we will make this journey a smooth transition to a new year with our dignity and the snap of our jeans intact!

Tip #1
Avoid the S.A.D. Diet!
The standard American diet (S.A.D.) is often low in protein, laden with unhealthy fats, and contains too many processed sugars. The body responds to the S.A.D. diet with irritation, confusion, cravings, low moods, inflammation and weight gain. Therefore, be sure to include a lean protein with each meal, especially breakfast since this is the official start to your day. Starting off right is often the key to conscious decisions throughout the day.
